Types of braces
Fixed brace – What is a fixed brace?

These are the most common type of brace, often referred to as “train tracks”. A small bracket in metal or ceramic is glued to the outer surface of each tooth, and these are then connected together by a thin wire. Depending on the type of brace used this may be done with coloured elastics of your choice or by a metal clip integral to the bracket. The wire exerts a gentle pressure on to the teeth guiding them into their new position.

If you break your brace (knock a bracket off, loosen a band or break a wire), please phone the practice and make a repair appointment. Breakages will make the treatment take longer, please read about the types of foods that should be avoided in dietary advice.
