Debonding is the process of removing the cemented orthodontic brackets from your teeth.
What to Expect at your Debond Appointment?
The appointment will typically last between 20-30 minutes. The debonding procedure is painless. However, you may feel a little pressure when your brackets are being remove. Pliers will be used to remove the brackets and wires and the orthodontist or orthodontic therapist will polish your teeth to remove any of the glue that is left on your teeth. On some occasions, depending on the patient’s oral hygiene, your gums may feel a little sore or inflamed but that should go away after a few days with improved oral hygiene.
After you get your braces off, one of our nurses will take a scan of your teeth and send this to an orthodontic lab to make your retainers. Retainers are an orthodontic appliance that keep your teeth in place after the removal of your braces. Your teeth have a memory of the position they were in prior to having braces and will want to move back so it is important that you wear your retainers as prescribed by your orthodontist to ensure that your teeth will remain straight.

To keep your teeth straight, you will need to wear your retainers every night long term. Retainers are like shoes and will wear out and need replacing – so why not protect your smile with a spare set of retainers.
At the debond appointment, when your braces are removed, you can get a second set of retainers at our discounted price of £90 for a set (normally £180 for a set).
At the end of your retention period, if you would like a second set of retainers for £180, a new scan may be required if your gums were puffy when the braces were removed.
We also offer Invisalign’s Vivera retainers that come with 3 sets of retainers. Vivera retainers are suitable for patients treated with both conventional braces and Invisalign. The cost for this is £320 for 3 sets upper and low.
