Using pliers, we will remove the brackets and wires from your teeth. We will then polish your teeth to remove any glue that has been left behind. The debonding procedure is painless, however you may feel a little pressure while your brackets are being removed. In some cases, depending on your oral hygiene, your gums may feel a little sore or inflamed, but this will go away after a few days with improved oral care.
Once your braces have been taken off, we will take a scan of your teeth. This will be used to make your retainers, an orthodontic appliance to keep your teeth in place once your braces have been removed.
Retainers are vital to keep your teeth straight. Without them, your teeth will try to move back into the positions they were in before your orthodontic treatment. It is therefore important that you wear your retainers as advised by your orthodontist to ensure your new dream smile stays straight. We recommend they are worn overnight for the long term.
Your teeth move throughout your life even if you have not had braces. To keep your teeth straight for life, you will need to wear retainers every night. They will wear out and need replacing after a while – so protect your smile with a spare set of retainers.
At the debond appointment, you can order a second set of retainers at a discounted price of £90 for a set (normally £180).
If you would like a second set of retainers after your retention period, at a cost of £180, a new scan may be required if your gums were puffy when the braces were removed.
We offer Invisalign Vivera retainers, suitable for patients who have had Invisalign or conventional braces treatment. You receive three sets of retainers (upper and lower) at a cost of £390.
