Self-ligating braces
Damon™ system
The Damon System uses low friction brackets to allow smoother tooth movement. Conventional braces tie the arch wire in with elastics or tie wires, which can cause friction and pressure, making treatment slower and less comfortable. Damon braces use a metal clip integral to the bracket to hold the wire in place, which allows teeth to move more freely.
With these self-ligating brackets, low force arch wires can be used to move the teeth faster and require fewer adjustments, and yet still gaining consistently high-quality results. The brackets are available in a full metal version Damon Q and a Damon Clear, as pictured here.
Pros
- May allow borderline cases to be treated without extractions
- Appointments can be further apart
- There is no staining of ligatures
Cons
- Minor detailing at the end may take longer
